Training

The trainings offered by hanslux Logo is under construction. Up to now the following subjects are available. The contents and profoundness can be adjusted to the customer’s needs to fit on the situation at the customer’s site. Every participant will receive the content on paper and an attendance certificate.

Linux - Basics

This training is addressed to new users or users who worked before on computers with other software. It elaborates on the particularities of Linux and the desktop in use.

Log In - Working - Log Out - Shut Down
The daily cycle of work from switching on in the morning to shutting down in the evening.
The Desktop KDE
The KDE-Desktop is highly configurable, every worker will find his/her favorite settings for the daily job.
The Home Directory
The data owned by the worker reside here. The users will learn which data is visible for others, readable or writable. The dotfiles keep the personal settings of many programs.
Handling of Changeable Media
Under Linux no CDROM will start automatically, also floppies and DVDs have to be mounted and their data is available in special directories.
Information - Help
Linux contains lots of documents about itself and all installed software. The manual pages, the info system and more places of information will be discussed.

Linux - Administration

This training is designed for experienced users who like to take over parts of administration tasks or even want to have a deeper view into the system.

Partitioning und Installing
How much diskspace will Linux need? Which preparations have to be done and how does the installation proceed? These questions and more will be discussed.
Package administering with rpm
Of course it is possible with a commandline in the console window, but for the Red Hat Package Manager graphical user interfaces are available, too.
User und Group Administraion
To anounce users to the system, handling passwords, grant memberships in groups and what it is good for.
System Messages and Logfiles
Linux tells when something goes wrong, but also when everything is running well, logfiles and the syslog service giving useful information.
Runlevel and Services
Linux can run in different stages of operation and will use services to be configered for each stage seperately.

The KDE-Desktop

The KDE-Desktop is currently the mostly used graphical user interface on Linux. Of course its facilities are oriented by the systems of the market leader, but today its facilities reach out much more far.

Screen Ergonomics and Control Elements
The more the desktop is tuned to fit the own likes and needs the more successful the work will proceed.
The Controlcenter
Everything is configurable, nearly. Lots of it is useful, something is not. From mouse speed to character fonts and window frame color.
Kmenu - Create Your Own Menus
The program kmenu empowers the user to create individual menus. We will put all of our favorite application programs in one personal menu for ease of use.
Konqueror - which Browses Everything
The konqueror is the browser of many talents in the K desktop environment. This program shows directories, files and their contents and web pages. And when a file contains a sound, it will play it for us. About MIME-types and PlugIns.

Networking - Basics

This training offers an introduction to networking technology. The principles of package mediation with connectionless als well as connection oriented protocols will be the subject.

The Internetprotocol and the Protocolstack
TCP, UDP and other protocols and which layers of the ISO/OSI-Protocol Stack they use.
The Domain Name System
Everything is rather simple: how a node name is evaluated to an IP-address, a worldwide distributed database.
Network File System
Files, directories and hard disk partitions to share in the local network, it works this way with Linux.
Automatic Configuration of Network-Clients
To administer the network configuration of all clients in the whole local network on one server we use the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).
Print Services in the Network
The Internet Printing Procol (IPP) with the Common UNIX Printing System (CUPS) empowers all network clients to print over one server.
Tools for Network Diagnosis
What is going on on the network? Tools like Ethereal, Xnmap, host und dig and last not least ping analyse the networking infastructure.
